This wallpaper features what was, when it was designed in the late 19th century, an unusual and innovative pattern of scrolling foliage. The graded colour which gives life and depth to the leaves was a contemporary evolution of the traditional, flat damask design. Erddig, just outside Wrexham, houses a huge collection of wallpapers, many of which, like this one, were found as samples in tea chests in the attic.
